چکیده

2. Ionizing radiation Individual types of IR possess different biological effectiveness. In order to it unit of equivalent dose was defined – 1 Sievert (Sv). Equivalent dose represents absorbed dose multiplied with factor connected with biological effectiveness of IR. More precisely, this factor expresses how many times is precise IR effective than photons of X or gamma radiation (röentgen radiation of energy 200 keV is reference). The value of factor depends on kind and energy of radiation [6]. Sensitivity of tissues and organs to IR exposition is different. Radiation weighting factor (wT) was introduced to quantify the sensitivity of organs and probability of stochastic effects on them. The sum of wT for whole organism is 1 (Tab. 1). Modulation of radiation induced changes in nucleic acid content of liver of Swiss albino mouse by Tinospora cordifolia (Miers)

Background: Radiotherapy is the main modality of cancer treatment. There are many chemical radioprotectors which unfortunately have lethal or toxic effect. Therefore the search is on to find out natural plant based radioprotectors. A well known medicinal plant, which is more acceptable to the body, Tinospora cordifolia, was tested in animal tissues against gamma radiations. Radioprotectiv...

Phosphoprotein profiles of candidate markers for early cellular responses to low-dose γ-radiation in normal human fibroblast cells

Ionizing radiation causes biological damage that leads to severe health effects. However, the effects and subsequent health implications caused by exposure to low-dose radiation are unclear. The objective of this study was to determine phosphoprotein profiles in normal human fibroblast cell lines in response to low-dose and high-dose γ-radiation. We examined the cellular response in MRC-5 cells...

Radiation-induced decomposition of the purine bases within DNA and related model compounds.

This survey focuses on recent developments in the radiation chemistry of purine bases in nucleic acids and related model compounds. Both direct and indirect effects of ionizing radiation are investigated with special emphasis on the structural characterization of the final decomposition products of nucleic acid components. Available assays for monitoring radiation-induced base lesions are criti...

Effects of gamma radiation on adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells of human breast tissue

Background: During radiation therapy, stromal cells surrounding the tumor (e.g mesenchymal stem cells) may affect the treatment outcomes. We aimed to investigate the effects of gamma radiation on the mRNA expression of cytokines, DNA damage and population doubling time (PDT) of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs). Material and methods: ASCs were enzymatically extracted from breast tis...
